James C. Marquis - President
James has over 16 years experience in senior technology roles focused on technology consulting, strategic leadership, software development, operations, electronic asset management and electronic publishing. Throughout his career, James has focused on the challenges associated with managing and delivering technology in a variety of roles and organizations.
James is currently serving as President of ClassFive. ClassFive is focused on strategic technology consulting serving associations and other non-profit entities. Projects completed over the last year include implementation oversight of Avectra netFORUM, multiple technology audits focused on the assessment of technology use throughout the organization and project oversight for two enterprise information systems. Recent clients include the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association, Association of Research Libraries, CropLife America and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Prior to ClassFive, James served as founder and CEO of TechRiver, a Virginia based software engineering firm focused on custom software development and Web based content management solutions for associations. While with TechRiver, James architected the Rapids product offering affordable content management options to small businesses. He also oversaw two enterprise application projects including all aspects of project, budget and technology management. The first project focused on the educational market while the second was in the healthcare arena.
Prior to TechRiver, James was with ComVersant, an e-business consulting firm based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. James built upon previous work in the area of Electronic Asset Management and Web Application Development to design, manage and implement Web software applications and content management systems for a Fortune 500 global electronics manufacturer and multiple start-up organizations. His experience with ComVersant included the global restructuring of Phillips Electronics Peripherals division combining Web sites from 30+ countries into a single, content-managed Web structure supporting multiple languages and multiple dialects. In addition to his work on large-scale initiatives, James performed technical due diligence and acted in senior leadership positions for various start-up and early stage organizations providing requirements analysis and RFP preparation.
Prior to joining ComVersant, James spent several years as the head of the Key Account Technical Team with RIA Group, a division of the Thomson Corporation. This role involved project management, technical account management and implementation services to Fortune 1000 clients in a diverse mixture of IT environments including the emerging platforms of Intranets and the Internet. While in this role he was instrumental in the planning and launching of CHECKPOINT, a fully interactive Web research application for tax and legal research professionals. This project achieved 20,000 users and more than $10 million in revenue within a year of launch.
James has additional content management experience through his work at RIA in the design and specification for OnPoint32, the 3rd generation of RIA’s CD-ROM research application. In addition to project management duties, his role involved authoring system and technical design specifications, researching emerging technology solutions related to optical disc distribution, integration of SGML based electronic publishing systems, and migration planning for 40,000 clients totaling $70 million in revenue.
Upon joining RIA/Thomson, James developed and ran RIA’s Technical Service call center located in Northern California. While there, he oversaw and managed the implementation of a new call/customer tracking system as well as growing the organization from a staff of 5 to a staff of 60 over 2 years.
James holds a BA degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Microsoft Certified Trainer. James is a member of the American Society of Association Executives. James is also a certified SCUBA diver.
Jim Moore - Chief Technology Officer
Jim has over 18 years of progressive responsibility in software engineering, information technology consulting, project management, business operations and personnel management. He has been involved in information system design, development, analysis, and project management for a wide variety of clients including K12, Philips Electronics, Bell Atlantic, the Amparo Museum, MCI, the National Restaurant Association, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO), the Department of State (DOS), the Department of the Navy, the Department of the Air Force and the Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA).
As a Senior Software Engineer at TechRiver, Jim serves as software engineer, technical lead, IT consultant and project manager. Recently Jim led a requirements analysis project for the Office of Recruitment, Evaluation and Examination for the Department of State (DOS-REE) to enhance their existing candidate tracking system. Prior to his work with the DOS, Jim designed and developed a tool and set of processes allowing K12 to import over 200,000 pages Microsoft Word lessons into the customer’s custom Content Management System using Perl and Microsoft’s OLE interface. This system created fully relational, structured data using the base forms completed by K12’s instructional designers.
At VERTEX Solutions, Jim worked as a Senior Information Systems Analyst and the practice director for the Information Technology Practice. While at VERTEX, Jim worked with various government agencies to integrate web based information systems into their training and education business processes. This included departmental website development, collaboration systems integration, budget system development and integration and web based training development. Additionally, Jim managed the VERTEX IT infrastructure and budget.
Prior to VERTEX, Jim spent 8 years as a software engineer and manager at CapDisc (later purchased by Philips Electronics and folded into Philips Media Systems). He worked with the engineering and sales staff to gather customer requirements and develop engineering estimates for projects. Jim continued technical management of the InfoTravel product, a CD Interactive (CD-I) product deployed at hotels so guests could locate local resources such as hotels and restaurants. The InfoTravel system was developed using networked CD-I players and accessed via a dialup Internet connection making it an early adopter of Internet technology for value added content delivery.
As a Computer Scientist at David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center, Jim worked in the Office Automation Branch and the Electronic Technical Manual Project office in the Computer, Mathematics and Logistics Department.
Jim holds a BS in Computer Science from the State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh. He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society. Jim is an Eagle Scout and remains active with the Boy Scouts of America as well as coaching youth soccer.
